The study and collecting of Provincial Banknotes has been part of notaphily for many years;

the notes themselves are treasured as much for their aesthetic appeal as their rarity and the

banks that issued them are names that have gone down in history—

many are still fondly

subject, but never has such a complete work as this Standard Catalogue made it to press. In

one volume the author has listed all the private and Joint Stock banks of England and Wales,

including those of London, and in doing so has provided a framework for the banknote

issues of these banks to be listed in as much detail as is currently known. This Standard

Catalogue has succeeded in filling a noticeable gap in the market and is certain to rapidly

become the standard reference book for this fascinating subject.
